How do I register a Domain Name?

A domain name is a mask to a IP address, For example, instead of going to 192.168.0.0.1, You can just type in “example.com” to get to the same location. This makes it much easier to browse the internet, as well as remembering the location of the internet web-page. In this blog post, i am going to show you how to set up a domain name for yourself, as well as some resources to get a website that is functional accomplished.

The first thing you will need to do is find a domain registrar, there are very many.. the most popular is GoDaddy… However it is not the only. It is actually quite simple to register a domain. In this example, I am going to assume that you are going to use GoDaddy.com to register your domain, on their homepage, they provide a domain search tool.. use this to find the domain you want.

If the domain is taken, make slight changes to the url, or try a different TLD then .com, try things like .org,net,co . They all do the same thing, except if you choose an alternative, you may get “Example.net” instead of “example.com”. Not a big difference, as you will still have a presence on the internet..that is all that matters.

Furthermore, after you find the domain that you would like, Add the domain to your cart and checkout. You can pay for your order with a credit card or PayPal. The cost of your domain should be around 10 dollars, unless you chose one that is more expensive.

After checkout, the domain will show up in your account, and then you will be able to point the domain to the server that your site is hosted on. ..You will need to find a free hosting provider, such as host1plus, or pay for someone to host your site. Once you do one of the two, your provider will give you “nameservers” that you can set your domain to, in order for your website to displayed. To set nameservers, follow the steps below..

1.) login to your registrars site (in this example it is godaddy)

2.) click on the domain, or find the link that says domain managment.

3.) Once you have entered the panel to the current domain, find the location for DNS managment

4.) Add the name-servers for your site (this is generally something like ns1.example.com, and ns2.example.com)

Make sure that your site is uploaded to the server, and wait a couple hours (can take up to 24) for your website dns to update throughout the internet…this is because Internet service providers update their records at different times, there is no set times for them to update.
